Coffee Afternoon: A huge thanks to all those who were able to support the coffee afternoon last week. £420 made the day an even greater success so thanks to everyone for the effort.

Bowling Club: Thursday from 6.30, open to everyone for a wee game, a wee cup of tea and a wee chat.

Next Week: We have a songs of praise next week with all the hymns chosen by members of the congregation, introduced by them too. It’s going to be great.

Goliath

Okay, Sunday is changing a little. It's still about David but how can we avoid the Goliath story? Ten point to anyone who can remember doing it before not too long ago where we had the congregation calling out 'Here we go, here we go, here we go' etc. (If too many of you remember I'll have to think of something else.)

It's going to be a busy Sunday and a bit of a roit too. Fabulous. Anyway, it is the last of the summer services. Comments? Thoughts? What worked for you? Or maybe we should leave that until after Sunday...

We are now grown up

At the end of last week we received a wee certificate saying CAOS was now officially a company. It's real. The project is almost underway. We're a few more ten of thousands of pounds to raise but we can do that and watch as things begin to develop. It's going to be great. But we are now completely, totally, 100% legal and responsible. Panic.

Should we celebrate?

Magazine

Just a wee reminder that the magazine (fabby looking and full of gossip and news and deep and peptrating investigative journalism) is puplished fairly soon and articles would be greatly appreciated. What about some comments on CAOS:summer or the services we've been having over the summer. What about stuff about the weather, about who you met on holiday, about your favourite hymn and why. What about letters to the editor about the new style of ministerial robes the church of scotland are suggesting? - joke.

Chocolate Teapots for 28th July

Today was okay. Very much a routine but the wall was good. I thought it looked fabulous so thanks for Josh, Aam, Sean and Katie for spending a moment or two with sponges and lots of paint. Love it.

Next week we move on to David. Bit of a naughty boy really who just couldn't help himself with the women. And he liked dancing much to the chagrin of his wife. Lots of twists and turns which is no great surprise given he was the archetypal king and model for the Messiah. It wonderful how these stories are so rich because of who he was seen to be.

Anyway, for Sunday we have a big arc of the covenant made as the scenery (thanks again to the aforementioned chidlren who have already completed nest weeks homework). Also a baptism so the link there will be the anointing of david and the future hope that created and how it was the most ordinary, smallest, youngest that was chosen to be the greatest.

Not sure what activity we could do this week. We've have bricks, bread and honey, rainbow bookmarks and stars. What could we do for dancing david remembering there is a baptism and a few guests who may think the whole lot is a bit weird?

So it's all over to you. Need some hymns too. Only one or two because the rest are sort of chosen because it is a baptism, and the hymn that links from last week as well as the seasons new hymn so needing help...

I don't what to know. I don't want a conversation about it. I don't want theories or plots. I don't want any discussion. All I want is the book and a week in which to read it without interuption.

No chance of that then.

Science tonight. Fabulous. Then lots of arty mess. Fabulous too. What are we going to do when it all finishes next week?

That might be a serious question.

Cynical Thought

I'm a member of a few email discussion groups that are meant to help with sermon ideas. I haven't been following them during July becasue I've not been preaching a sermon, nor following the lectionary. Rather we've been experiencing some of the big stories which I've really enjoyed. However, this morning I've been downloading some thoughts from these email colleagues and came across this from a guy called Gary Dillensnyder. He's one who has consistently good thoughts. What do you thik about what he says here?

"But, then, I think the truth is that I have yet to find or be part of a church that is more healthy than dysfunctional, more alive than dead, more interested in what the Bible actually teaches than their own theology, more invested in social action and witness than survival and status quo, more committed to growing and deepening than feeling good and keeping the 'peace'."

Friday art time change

THose who may have ben interested in coming along to the Friday afternoon art attack to get scenary done for the service on Sunday, a wee change in time. I have to be somewhere else in the afternoon and so I'll be donw in the church from 11am-12.30 with paint and spounges and lots of paper. Anyone can come along and get messy, but sorry about the wee change of time.

Just been listening to a Radio 4 programme on the amount of storage space people have and what it says about them. Excellent as always (no phone in quizes or things like that on Radio 4) but Snow Patrol were singing 'Chasing Cars' in the background. Just such a fabulous song and such a good piece to use for worship sometime if we can all remember about it. Any other pieces you think we could maybe use.
