And so we ended the year for the church. Ended some of the hymns as well!! The Reign of Christ Sunday gives the impression of all that glitters but has the theology that it isn't all gold (or God).
And now we kind of creep into Advent, when no one is looking (except my neighbours and quite a few others with decorations up and balconies covered in lights. Is this the sign of recession?).
During the contempoary reading the lights were meant to go out slowly though most of them already are! suggesting the darkness where we find Jesus waiting. But I forgot to organise that. It was meant to imply the place where the homeless and hungry and imprisoned etc are found. And thus the cnaldes being lit would have been more dramatic. Next year.
How would you do the end of year celebration for the church? Is it all about big theology or a reality check about Jesus? Interested in discussion.
