Ah, this is where the Gospel is heading, not the Matthew, Mark, Luke, John bit but the Good News. This is what all the other bits and pieces, the feeding of the 5000 and the walking on water, the stable legend and stories of seeds and sons and samaritans were all heading. Pity it's all over in a week and most of us miss most of the gospel because we don't 'do' Holy Week each night. Everything we've done up to now is just introduction. This is the main part.
We traditionally call is the Passion of Christ. BVut there are two passions going on here. Jesus was passionate about justice, about truth, about the way we live in the world and how those with power live (which is us again). And because of that passion in looking for justice from followers and the world, this led to the second passion, that passion understood from it's latin root: suffering. One passion led to the other.
Yes, this piece of Gospel is the heart of matters, but all the other bits that proclaim Jesus' passion of the realm of God and it's justice and forgiveness and transforming grace is what got us here. But then, do we tend to miss out on that bit too?
Just read it. Just read the whole thing, in one sitting. Dobn't jump anything, don't skim over the bits you think you know well. Just read the whole gospel at one go, start to finish. Don't miss anything. It's probably going to be the best thing you do this Passiontide.
