Acts 11:1-18
Food once more. There's lot's of it in the Bible and usually when you read about eating in the Bible, something kingdom-like is just about to happen. And so it happens here again except this time it is gluttony. Not in terms of quantity, but in terms of quality. All the food in the shop window you've never tried because you 'don't eat that foreign stuff' and it is set at your seat.
Peter, being the clean living, role model Jews that he is, shuns the feast God offers him of Anglo-Saxon Jellie of Fyshe, Indonesian Crispy Crunch Beef, Norwegian Berry Pudding with Cream, or similar saying I've never even let a morsel of that stuff cross my lips. And God waits, and waits and waits until his taste buds tingle and his intrigue persuades him.
And then it dawns on him: the realm of God is bigger than a picnic blanket, bigger than your own culture, bigger than your traditions, bigger than your last thought, bigger than your prejudices, bigger than you.
And it tastes fabulous.
