the nets were old
the knots and splicings
were evidence of long use
and a generation of catches
they were being worked on once more
plaits of rope
intertwined with good catches
new cord spliced with old
a minding of the ones that got away
and the fishers sat
and wove together their stories
until the call
not to leave their nets behind
but to become them
but would these salt-bleached followers
hitched together by hope and hesitation
be strong enough to hold
the whole longing of heaven
