Typical! On the one evening the sky is cloudless (almost) there's a lunar eclipse, it doesn't come this far north. Not that we've had many clear skies....
In fact I've given up on summer. It is just so cold still. In fact I've given up waiting for summer arriving at all this year and just going to go for it next year. The jet stream or global warming or some other event has made sure that it hasn't crossed the border between Scotland and England. Down south there is a drought, up here the season is just... well, pathetic.
Even the grass hasn't bothered this year. I've only cut it twice and the hedge - yes there is a silver lining, that's been cut just once and hasn't made any effort whatsoever to grow again. So there is a God but God has clearly moved down south to the better weather.
I haven't seen a wasp either, nor a bee, and greenfly have all emigrated. And I have hardly seen a Scot without his shirt on (never a pretty sight) though it doesn't take much sun for that to happen. Shows you just how little warmth there has been. I'm sitting here having had the heater on for a short while and wearing a wooly jumper as I type. Today is my wife's birthday and I bought her a fleecy blanket for a present. That says it all.
It's not just the moon that's been eclipsed, but the whole season. So I'm dedicating this blog to a blog of condolences for summer. Please feel free to add your gripe or moan or lament for the season that never was.
