This is based on the Ecclesiastes 3 passage which we will be using on Sunday.
Whatever the time
Jesus made time
for the woman who
came to the well at noon
when no one else was there
and found a man
who invited her to drink
of living water
(go break the bread)
May there always be time
to break bread
and share wine
with those who least receive it
Whatever the time
Jesus made time
for the child who
offered his lunch
of five loaves and two fish
to feed a crowd of 5000 adults
who were too grown up to believe
it was possible
(go break the bread)
May there always be time
to break bread
and share wine
with those who least believe it
Whatever the time
Jesus made time
for the tax-collector who climbed a tree
and finished up with a saviour
round table at tea-time
who transformed him
from lonely sinner
to friend of all
(go break the bread)
May there always be time
to break bread
and share wine
with those who least deserve it
Whatever the time
Jesus made time
for the disciple who doubted
and could not believe
yet found himself in a moment
where everything seemed possible again
and trust led him
back into life again
(go break the bread)
May there always be time
to break bread
and share wine
with those who least trust it
Whatever the time
Jesus made time
for the rejected
through of culture or skin colour
of disease or gender
and welcomed them here
into a community
shaped with grace
and grounded on justice
(go break the bread)
May there always be time
to break bread
and share wine
with those who least know it
Whatever the time
Jesus made time
for us
