"Proud to be a Bankie"

QUESTION: What do the Titan Crane (as shown on our Parish Profile intro page on this website), the Eiffel Tower & the Sydney Harbour Bridge have in common?

ANSWER: I have been to the top of all three!

Oh yes, and the Titan Crane has just joined the other two as an 'International Historic Civil and Mechanical Engineering Landmark'.

The Titan Crane helped to build some of the world's largest ships and was built by Sir William Arrol & Co. (who's great, great, great, "relative" I just happened to work with until we both retired in the past year.

It is good to see all the hard work that this famous crane has done over the past 100 years receiving such a prestigious award.

Let us now hope that what goes up around it is made to last another 100 years and gives the birthplace of Clydebank and our church, a new place to be proud of.   (click on pic for larger view)

The Abbotsford Seven (-1)

Well, that's it!

The nominations have been completed and the seven have been chosen.
Six of the seven are shown in the photograph above. The seventh was on his way back from his holidays so didn't quite make it.

A big thank you for everyone's support in what is always an anxious time.

Now for the next step. Our Parish Profile will be put in front of the Kirk Session tomorrow evening for comment. Hopefully it will appear here sometime soon.

All we need to do then is join with those chosen at Dalmuir Barclay and find the correct person to fill the post.

Easy?

BTW - We had been wearing a different colour each Sunday during the Summer hence the 'Plethora of Pink'

Nominations

This Sunday, 18th August 2013, sees the formation of our linked 'Nominations Committe' (Vacancy Committee to people who have walked this path before).

Abbotsford have to choose 7 people from our Electoral Roll and our linked charge at Dalmuir Barclay have to chose 6 from theirs (Abbotsford has an ever so slightly greater number on their Electoral Roll). If we get more than the required number nominated then we have to take it to a vote. Never an easy thing when there are so many talented people, as someone has to lose out.

Those chosen, just ordinary members or adherents from each congregation, will then have the task of finding a new minister and in doing so will shape the future of worship in these places.

Daunting with a capital 'D'

However, by early afternoon on Sunday, the choices at both churches will have been made and the people chosen will, over the next few weeks, take the first steps to finding that new minister. 

It could be said that it has been a longer journey to get to this position than we would have liked and not the best start to the linkage. However, against that, it can be argued that it now gives our churches a chance to get togther and forge a new beginning with a minister who will hopefully be an integral part of both 'Church Families'. Someone who we can all work with in a common cause.

Let us pray for those who choose and those who are chosen.

So be it!

Congratulations!!!!

Congratulations to David Cowan and his bride Joanne who were married last Friday by our previous Minister, Revd. Roddy Hamilton.

The weather was kind to them and there was a good turn out from Abbotsford to sing the happy couple into 'Holy Wedlock'.

David has been part of our church family since his great gran brought him to church as a wee boy and he now helps out on our organist rota. 

Hopefully married life will still allow him time to "tinkle the Abbotsford ivories".
