WHO ARE WE? • We are married, not married, single, separated, divorced and remarried. • We are different generations of brothers, sisters, adults and children. • We are all genders and sexualities, lifestyles and experiences and a few prejudices too. • We are people very new to the church and many who have been here longer than they care to remember. • We are folks who know little about the Bible and those who know quite a bit about it. • We are Sunday morning only members and those who come to everything. • We are beginners on the journey of faith along with those who have travelled quite a distance. • We are people looking for something BIGGER in life. • We are a mix of explorers and traditionalists • We are people who want to be together: caring accepting and loving each other. But most of all... people who want to be together: caring, accepting and loving each other.

Harvest Sunday

IMG_1994As intimated during our service this morning, Harvest Sunday at Abbotsford is Sunday, 4th October.

Our world is in crisis with people fleeing war and persecution. Over the last few weeks our retiring collection has been taken on behalf of the British Red Cross who are helping the people caught up in the troubles.

However, on Harvest Sunday, as we did last year, a collection will be taken for Glasgow City Mission.
Let us never forget that problems are not just in another part of the world...

THEY CAN BE, AND ARE, MUCH CLOSER TO HOME!

For everyone born, a place at the table...

Our family were over the moon last week.
We were blessed with a lovely wee grand-daughter ... a sister for our three year old grandson. 
A lovely wee family!

Surrounded by cards to celebrate us becoming grandparents again, I was going to post a picture here of the happy scene.

But then a picture appeared on every news channel & in every newspaper that shocked the world into reality... or should have!

While my grand-children can hopefully look forward to a reasonably secure future, surrounded by a loving family (and indeed 'extended' family) there are children afloat on inflatables in the Mediterranean darkness, children crammed like sardines into the back of refrigeration lorries, children being pushed through windows into overcrowded trains. Children fleeing with totally desperate mums and dads trying to find a better life, away from man's inhumanity to man.

And paying dearly for it!

"It must never happen again" is something that trips of the tongue all too easily as we celebrate the 70th anniversary of the end of WW2, Auschwitz and all.

But we are told that this IS the worst humanitarian disaster since WW2. It IS happening again!

Today our Minister called for retiring offerings towards the Red Cross efforts to help those fleeing that inhumanity.

Wherever you are in this world, PLEASE think about doing something to help.

After all, we are all human... aren't we?
