In her sermon yesterday ('Christ the King' Sunday), our Minister made reference to the Lord's Prayer.
This prayer, in its many forms, is something that is said in churches every Sunday and has long helped people in time of despair and crisis.
In these troubled days we need it more than ever.
I was therefore not a little bemused when I heard that UK cinemas are refusing to screen a Church of England commercial, during which the prayer is recited, as it 'may cause offence'. I am sure that we could all think of an advert that causes offence in some shape or form, but most of us can just open up the tub of popcorn / put on the kettle, when they hit the screen, and get on with life.
However, it seems that the ban could well have been a 'blessing in disguise', as people tend to come into cinemas 20 minutes after the time the programme starts, so that they can avoid the adverts.
Due to the controversy surrounding the ban, the number of people who are now aware of it far outweighs what the Church of England would have gained if it had been shown in cinemas.
The answer to the C. of E.'s prayers (if you are not offended by a wee bit humour!).
HALLELUJAH!
The cinema has never been the same since they shut down the local 'La Scala' anyway!
