Remembrance Sunday Service (13th Nov) - START TIME!

As you may be aware, organising the services of a Minister / Reader is becoming increasingly difficult or indeed, impossible. 

In his capacity as Presbytery Clerk, our Locum Minister David Clark has tried to find someone to allow both Abbotsford & Dalmuir Barclay to have the silence at 11:00am. but unfortunately without success.

This being the case, David has kindly offered to take individual Remembrance Services at our 'normal' start times of 10:00am at Dalmuir and 11:30am at Abbotsford.

Bearing in mind the situation in which we find ourselves the Kirk Sessions at both Abbotsford and Dalmuir Barclay, at their separate meetings last month, therefore decided to accept David’s offer. We are aware that this is not ideal, but as was said at our meeting… 

            "It is not so much about WHEN we remember, as long as we DO remember!"

A night of FUN (in teams of 4) as we try to remember the answer to that question.
NO! Not 'When are they serving the tea?'!!!!

It will get you thinking, but is NOT University Challenge.

HARVEST THANKSGIVING (We have a lot to be thankful for!)

Today, under our Locum Minister Rev David Clark, a good turnout of folks, young and old, celebrated Harvest Thanksgiving at Abbotsford.  

Although there was a 'token display' of fresh produce in the chancel, with some packets and tinned produce added by the children during the first hymn, our main target this year was monetary contributions for
GLASGOW CITY MISSION.

As well as David reminding the children that milk doesn't start life in a bottle and bread doesn't start life in a wrapper, the first part of the service included Communion, served in the chancel by the children of the Sunday School, and a great job they made of it too. It somehow made the Communion... well... Communion, with everyone being part of the act, from 3 to 93 (give or take a year or three at either end!!!).

With our ubiquitous Abbotsford 'Harvest Display' and the very apt triptych showing bread & wine and fishes swimming in the sea (made by 'Craft Daft' over the past few weeks), it was truly a Harvest Thanksgiving to remember.

A very big THANK YOU to David & the Sunday School for helping to make it so.

PS - Although the money collected will go to Glasgow City Mission, the tins and packets will go to West Dunbartonshire Foodbank!
