Abbotsford yesterday hosted a visit from the Moderator of the General Assembly, The Right Rev Dr G. Russell Barr and his wife, Margaret.
It was good to see the pews filled to bursting as six Church of Scotland congregations in Clydebank gathered to greet them.
Our Locum Minister, Presbytery Moderator Rev David Clark, lead worship, with Ordained Local Minister Margaret Nutter & Rev Margaret Yule assisting. The Moderator, in his kilt, spoke to the children (young & not so young) and preached the sermon.
As appears to have now become a tradition during his visits, the Moderator presented Long Service Certificates to 25 members from the six congregations. Together with one member from Abbotsford who unfortunately couldn't be there on the day, a 'grand' total of almost 1000 years of service was represented on the certificates and the Moderator thanked them all, individually and collectively, for all their work and dedication.
A retiring offering for the Moderator's chosen charity 'Fresh Start', of which he is chairman, raised an excellent £396.
A good number gathered in the large hall afterwards for 'Tea & Biscuits' and the Moderator and his wife went round the hall speaking to as many people as was possible.
Everyone attending appeared to enjoy the experience... even if it is now back 'tae auld claes an parritch'!
A very big 'THANK YOU' to the large number who helped out, in whatever way, and thanks to everyone else for just being there to make it a very happy day here in Clydebank.
Apologies for the pic of the recipients of the Certificates being a bit on the dull side but it was taken from the balcony on a phone. If you have any photographs, please do send them and we shall create a gallery.
