What's in a name?

Although our current church name, Abbotsford, could be more associated with Sir Walter Scott, let us take a quote from 'south of the border'...

“What’s in a name? That which we call a rose
By any other name would smell as sweet.”

For three weeks, starting this Sunday, the Congregations of Abbotsford and St. Cuthbert's will vote on the new name for their united congregation.

People and organisations change names for a number of reasons... good and bad.
Married women know more than most what it is like to have to change a name. Some now chose not to change!

From an administrative point of view yes, it would have been nice to hang on to one name for a variety of reasons; bank accounts, websites, stationery, losing an identity that you have lived with for more years than you care to remember.

However, to be fair to both churches the name has to change.

We all have our thoughts based on our histories, our locations, our biases, our romantic thoughts, our biblical knowledge, etc. etc. etc. These thoughts have been collected over the past month or so at both churches and three contenders now await the result of our vote.

At the end of it all, the name is not the bottom line. New bank accounts can be opened. New websites can be created. 

However, it is what we, as a new, united congregation do, both inside and outside our walls, that will help to create our REAL IDENTITY to the outside world in the months and years to come.

... and sorry, but, Pewy McPewface was a non starter!!!
