The text below is a summary of what is proposed for the churches in Cluster Ref D6 (Clydebank:Radnor Park, Kilbowie St Andrew’s and Clydebank:Waterfront).
The plan will be formally put to Presbytery, as intimated, on Saturday 18th March and a citation to attend on that day has been issued to individual congregations.
Thank you!
______
It is proposed that the building determinations would be:
Kilbowie St Andrew’s - A (Required for future use.)
Radnor Park - B (Not required for future use and to be disposed of.)
Waterfront - A (Required for future use.)
The rationale for this would be as follows:
The committee have taken on board the comments and appeals made by a number of concerned members of the community (as well as further afield) about the future of the Kilbowie St Andrew’s building, owing to the presence of the Blitz Memorial within their Sanctuary. As it would seem to be a treasured asset to the community of Clydebank and beyond, the committee wishes to offer as much time as possible to Kilbowie: St Andrew’s to determine whether or not funds can be raised through the liquidation of assets and fundraising to undertake the restoration works detailed in a report recently commissioned by our Presbytery Buildings Officer.
In order that Ministry may begin to be sought for this area without delay, the committee recommend that the congregations of Radnor Park and Waterfront unite in the Waterfront building and link with Kilbowie St Andrew's for at least the duration of this process.
This situation would be reviewed annually. Should there not be any prospect of funds becoming available to undertake the work detailed above, then Presbytery would work with the Kilbowie St Andrew’s congregation to seek appropriate parties to acquire the Kilbowie St Andrew’s building in order that the Blitz Memorial can be maintained and remain available to the community of Clydebank and beyond for many years to come. Should this happen, it would be proposed that the congregation of Kilbowie St Andrew’s would unite with the Waterfront/Radnor Park congregation in the Waterfront building.
This is subject to approval by the General Trustees, who play a part in approving Presbytery Mission Plans.
We were keen to communicate this to you as soon as it was agreed by the committee in order that you were not reading it firstly in the Draft Plan, which is due to be published on 1st March prior to the meeting on 18th March to approve the plan.
Please be assured that we have arrived at this proposal after a great deal of discernment and we hope that it meets with your approval.
If you have any queries, then please do not hesitate to contact me on the details listed below.
Kind regards,
Rev Jonathan Fleming
Interim Convener - Presbytery Planning Committee, Clyde Presbytery
