Light Festival

We're beginning a new tradition for us and that's finding a whole community way of celebrating the seasons. We're taking the big general theme of a season and turning it into a mini-festival and using image and sound and sacred space adn food and community building things and craft to explore it and celebrate it.

We're beginning with Advent and holding a festival of light. We're planning to redesign the colours on the tower lighting, having different organisations create lanterns we'll make into a light wall, a lacuna pool of floating light, a chillout zone of Hubble photographs and music, stories of light, a light quiz, a sheet of coloured light made from acrylic squares and backlit and a whole host of other things.

Obviously the theme is light and I'm really looking forward to it. It's another way to ry and attract people back into church taking the season and experimenting a little. Oh, and there's another things we are doing: experiments that let the light out. We've some cool scientists who are going to take thing that seem to have no light energy in themselves but they will find way of letting the light break out and possibly (hopefully) explode a bit.

On a lighter note...

We were discussing with the Abbotsford Angels (an open group of people who are angels in as much as they are organising taking the message (angelos=messenger) of the congreation to those outside the congregation or who have gone quiet in the life of the congregation) about holding a light festival in December. A fabulous idea.

But what do you do at a light festival? Ideas? Can this be a crossroads with faith and culture and community and secularism? What would you do at a light festival? What are the 101 things you can do with light? Open to a host of ideas!

Think Tank

We met again tonight. Jesus. It's a bit topic but we jumped in. If you go to the Think Tank blog then you'll find out what we all talked about. Still looking for a better way to process this but working on it.

We had a look at some images of Jesus. I can't post them here for copyright stuff but just put images of Jesus into google image search and you'll get quite a few. What's the most loathesome? Why? Whose shoes need you stand in to find out who the image speaks to?

Think Tank

We had our first blether in the Think Tank on Monday. Twas interesting. You can hear more about it at the Think Tank Blog where you can also respond, ask questions hear more etc.

We've posed a few question to keep us going this week. There are a million more. Plus I'll post more about our discussion as the week goes on and hopefully some shape will emerge. Meeting again two weeks today. Might have a special guest who knows stuff which will be great. I think we're goig to be focussing on what we believe. That will take more than one night and we're planning to let that be the focus for the next month or so.
